Sorta Scuba

Because Jeff wants to take his scuba diving to higher levels, we have continued to take courses when our shop offers discounts on classes that interest us. Jeff will need 5 "specialties" to become a master scuba diver as well as 50 dives and be Rescue Certified (which he already is). So far we have our Nitrox and Wreck Speciality. I don't really have ambitions to become a master scuba diver, but if the class sounds fun I will take it with Jeff. This month the shop was offering a discount on Navigation and Peak Performance Buoyancy, so we signed up. Navigation is important, because...well it gets you back to the boat! My Nav skills are pretty much non existent, but it's okay because Jeff is always with me and he is awesome at it! :) But really, I need to learn in case of an emergency. Peak Performance Buoyancy helps you perfect one of the most important skills in Scuba diving...what separates an okay diver from a great diver! You learn to just use your lungs and breathing to go up and down as you dive and not rely on your BC all the time. In order to get the specialities you have to attend class, do some pool time and do 2-5 dives depending on the speciality.
This past Sunday we were scheduled to take a 1/2 day boat trip out of Ventura (about an hour and a half north of LA) to do two peak performance buoyancy dives, and then we'd have our certification. On Saturday we decided to head to the pool to practice, which was a lot of fun. However, Sunday after arriving in Ventura a few hours before the boat was set to leave, we got a call from the dive shop that the trip was cancelled due to huge waves and a small craft advisory. We were disappointed but Jeff already had a hotel up there because he was scheduled to work up in the area for part of the week. So we got lunch, checked into his hotel and then went to the HUGE outlet mall (seriously huge, we moved the car 3 times) where Jeff used some birthday money to buy new Diesel jeans, tshirts and hats. Then I headed back to LA. Hopefully we can get our dives in soon, and next time mother nature will cooperate!
We took our new underwater camera housing to the pool to play around before using it in the ocean and took some fun pictures....
Jeff doing the "Spider Man"....upside down and trying to not move at all!
The pool was full of classes!
Heading to the deep end...
